i think tiktok has done incredible damage to being a “stan”, specifically for taylor, because of how performative it’s become. before tour started people were studying their openers’ music not because they wanted to enjoy it but because they wanted to look like they were having fun so TN would notice. same for those accounts about “how to be picked for rep room/the eras equivalent”. and now everyone’s doing “fan projects” and trying to one up each show to try and get noticed by taylor (holding up pics of marjorie, asking people to hold up different colors during songs, cheering the longest during champagne problems and timing the length of cheering at each show and ranking them) and it’s entirely so that taylor will notice and comment & not in genuine support of her.
this is so damn true. the tiktok ification of being a stan or going to eras tour is all about doing something thatll elicit a reaction out of taylor in order to get likes on tiktok. i dont know if people see how fucked up that is, especially if they do shit like hold up pictures of her late grandmother ?? its just so tasteless and insensitive
